# Liquid Staking

Liquid staking empowers users to secure the network and earn yield while capital stays unlocked. With Verio's liquid staking protocol, users stake Story's native gas token **IP** in exchange for the yield-bearing LST (liquid staking token) **vIP**. Users can then use **vIP** in DeFi & IPFi applications, for example, building leverage in money markets or participating in[ ](https://verio-story.gitbook.io/verio-story/architecture/publish-your-docs/ip-asset-re-staking)[IP Curation](/verio/staking-on-ip-assets/ip-curation.md). All the while, users are accruing staking rewards to the LST.
